“Woven In. Painted Free.”
A Tribute to the Artist Johanna Schönborn
In the spirit of Johanna Schönborn, this exhibition aims to contribute to “…not forgetting how to look, and not forgetting to see.”
In harmony with the unique architecture of the Gmünd city tower, the exhibition presents a selection of works that highlight various aspects of her artistic journey. Her paintings offer insights into a lifelong engagement with the place of her birth and youth.
Born in Gmünd in 1935, she moved to Vienna in 1958, where she studied under Wotruba, Leinfellner, and Otto Eder. In 1980, she was awarded the Theodor Körner Prize, followed by the ORF Poetry Prize in 1988.
The works of Johanna Schönborn are generously provided by the Kohlmayr family of Gmünd.
In cooperation with the City of Gmünd, the Kohlmayr family, and Pankratium Gmünd.
