The millennia-old settlement on the Hemmaberg / Globasnitz harbours significant traces of Europe‘s past such as the pre-Celtic deity Iouenat, who lent his name to the Roman settlement of Iuenna and the Jauntal valley. The excavations of the early Christian pilgrimage shrine from the Migration Period (400-600 AD) and the Ostrogothic burial ground represent extraordinary discoveries for the entire Alps-Adriatic Region.
